Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
