Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
