The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay technology.
Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Players will gain the option to challenge certain calls made by the official, mirroring the practice already in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which terminated the centuries-old role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of reviews a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
